Many churches around the world take time away from the lectionary to spend a month of a Season of Creation. This is more than a worship theme, it’s an invitation to discipleship that faithfully seeks to partner with God in caring for God’s Creation.
This year’s theme:
A home for all?
Renewing the Oikos of God
“The Season of Creation is a time to renew our relationship with our Creator and all creation through celebration, conversion, and commitment together. During the Season of Creation, we join our sisters and brothers in the ecumenical family in prayer and action for our common home.”
There are many excellent resources from around the world to assist in planning for worship and learning. Here are a few.
Season of Creation – an international ecumenical partnership sponsored by the World Council of Churches
UCA Synod of Victoria and Tasmania (with plenty of global links)
“What is the Season of Creation” – an article from the US National Catholic Reporter (NCR)
Let All Creation Praise – a US interchurch site with resources for worship and Creation
Dr Norm Habel – Australian Lutheran biblical scholar and hymn writer – biblical and theological resources and downloadable hymns. Many of the hymns are to well known hymn tunes, however copies of the music for the book need to be purchased if you want to access the few unfamiliar tunes.
Craig Mitchell and Leigh Newton wrote a song in 2020 about Creation. You are welcome to use this video in worship. Licensing is covered by CCLI. The music score is in Craig’s worship book Deeper Water.
