“40” is a remarkable book and/or movie by UK artist Si Smith. There are forty images, one for each day of Jesus’ forty days in the wilderness. While the cartoon images are simple, the unfolding visual narrative is extraordinarily poignant. The movie can be used as a piece in itself, or the images emailed once a day to people for contemplation during Lent.

I have also seen the images used as part of a labyrinth walk for contemplation.

I’ve made my own movie of the images using the song “A Chronicle of Early Failures, Part One” by The Dead Texan from the album The Dead Texan. You can find it on iTunes. Don’t let the name put you off – it’s a brilliant piece of music for these images.

Proost has many excellent digital. They seem to be ‘taking a break’ but you can still access their catalog here.
